Boat race is not a competition, people believes that on the day of uthrittathi star in malayalam month chingam, devi goes for a visit to the near by villages through the boat and the villagers will accompany the main boat with several other boats and comes back to the starting point after a full round. On the way the worshippers offers the traditional offerings like rice parra(cylindrical shaped bowl , considered as an unit of measurment) and other agricultural products to devi. On the return journey, people wecomes devi with musical hymns called karavanchi until reaches the temple .
