• Completely ooralans do the temple administration and thantri, madhurai, melshanthi, keezhshanti and karalans (moothathu & unni ) do the day today activities in the temple.
  • Scholars from thantri family perform the pooja's with regard to vedas, customs and mantras (holy chants). This right goes to kadiyakkol illom. Thanthric rituals are being done without making any lapse here. Thantri precedes the yearly festival and important day ceremonies.
  • The brahmin priest who arrived from madhurai meenakshi temple was the first and foremost poojari of the temple . His successors have the right to advise the “basic moola mantra” to melshanthi at the time of taking over the charge as melshanti. It is the duty of them to manage the day-to-day pooja's at the temple without having any interruption. Madhurai illom is on the north- eastern side of the temple.
  • "Melshanti", is the main priest who conducts the day to day pooja's from early morning to night. The pullur yoga sabha, nileshwaram in kasargode dist., nominates melshanti. He should be a purrappeda santhi throughout his service period. He is supposed to live at the melshanti madom during his service period and not allowed to go anywhere outside the temple premises. The melshanti leads purely a spiritual life and not allowed to live with family set up during this period.
  • Keezhshanti prepares the nivadyam(prasadam) every day . He prepares the nivadyam for devi and upadevas and has the right to carry the water for abhishekam(holy shower) every day from the temple well . He assists thanthri and melshanti in special pooja's like guruthy and pooja's during the yearly festivals.
  • Moothathu & unni are the karalans. It said to be that the great rishi parasuraman brought the moothathu (shivadwaja-brahmins) for the daily activities of the temple. They carry out the preparations for day to day pooja's and has the right to carry the devi's idol in daily procession inside the temple (three times a day) each have three pradakshinas (circumbulating temple main structure). They carry the golden idol of devi on the elephant during the yearly festival and special days. Unni prepares the garlands and are used to garland on the devi's idol & flowers for the daily pooja's. The karalans have special rights in temple day-to-day activities. Vattappallil illom and kunnathu illom are the two moothathu families parriath is the unni family and are on the south side of the temple.
